New and improved version of my arrangement of The Skye Boat Song for the double strung Brittany harp. That’s a Scottish clarsach style small harp you see behind me in the thumb nail. I even speak and show you the harp! 😉

and here are my lyrics referencing Outlander. At some point I’ll record myself singing this, but G isn’t my singing key, so it’s a bit of a stretch!

Beautiful Shawn. No wonder the harp is my National instrument.

Glad you enjoyed it! I may have had one Welsh piece in my old memorized repertoire: Suo Gan. I’ll have to brush it up and play it for you! 🙂
Lovely Shawn. One of my sisters is learning the Irish harp.
Nice thing about learning to play the harp- it sounds good even when you are a bare beginner, unlike trumpet or violin! lol Best wishes to her.
Excellent Shawn. I thought you were to recite or sing your poetic verses simultaneously.
Someday I may get to that point, but thusfar, it takes too much brain to just play the harp. I haven’t been able to multi-task enough to sing or recite yet! 🙂
Beautiful sound and nice melody. 😀
Thanks.
So amazing, the Skye Boat Song has never sounded better.
lol You are kind.
Very impressive, only a select few know how to use the instrument. I once tried to play the harp, haha you don’t want to know how that turned out 😀
lol
just…oh, Shawn, just lovely
Thanks, Charissa!
What a beautiful way for me to begin my morning: coffee and lovely harp music. Thanks!
My pleasure! I’m so glad you enjoyed it.
I have never heard anyone playing a harp before. Really! So soothing to listen to, and you played it really well. Bravo!
Thanks. It’s a lovely instrument to play. I am glad to be back at it after a long sabbatical away.
*concert chanting* WE WANT MORE! WE WANT MORE! WE WANT MORE! 😀
lol There will be more. Eventually. Starting over with this harp tuned in G means I have to develop all new repertoire. It’s coming slowly. Up to 4 tunes now! 🙂
Beautiful! I could listen to you play all day.
Thanks. My dogs get a lot of private concerts. 😉
What a sweet way to start my day! Thanks so much, Shawn.
My pleasure!
That was great. Really enjoyed it.
Thank you! Thanks for taking the time to comment!
Wow. Beautiful!
It’s a lovely melody. I’m so glad to have it in my repertoire! 🙂
A very relaxing melody Shawn.

Hello readers! Here is my feature of the week – a post from author Shawn L. Bird. Enjoy, as I did, her beautifully composed piece on the harp. 🙂
Thank you for the re-blog Danyealah!
You’re welcome! I wanted to show my support. 🙂
Good to see and hear!
Beautiful! Love listening to the harp. Thank you.
My pleasure.
Loved your performance.
This is lovely! Calming like the soundscape channel I listen to all the time.
Thanks
Lovely piece of music. Enjoyed your rendition on the harp. 🙂 Kind regards, Iris.
Thanks, Iris.
I do need to get a better equipment rather than my computer’s internal camera/mic if I want to do serious recording, but this has at least stopped the nagging I was getting to post my playing! 😉
Do that Shawn. Your harp playing is beautiful. 🙂
Thanks
One of my favorite songs. Takes me back to past lives…
🙂
[…] Starz has released the first episode of Outlander, and with it, Bear McCreary’s theme song based on The Skye Boat Song. I predicted that tune choice back in June, and posted a video of my harp arrangement. […]
